Christmas may seem like quite a way off yet, but every year it tends to sneak up on us, doesn’;t it? We are already looking ahead to the cheery Christmas season and Marie Nicole has started a fun project that will help count down the days! We love how she used Canvas Corp’;s red burlap sheet for this poinsettia, and added some sparkle to her snowflakes using some Tattered Angels paints. Read on as she explains in more detail how to create a calendar of your own!

Christmas Countdown Flip Calendar

Christmas has got to be my favorite holiday of the year, as Im sure it is with many of you! Yes, sometimes the business of getting all your food baked and working out how to schedule in all the holiday parties can be tiring, but spending that time with friends and family is always worth it! A favorite thing to do with kids (or just by yourself) is to count down the days until that special Christmas morning. That was my idea in beginning this project. I say “;beginning”; because I still have many pages to finish on this calendartoddler pillow cases, but hopefully with starting my Christmas in July I can give myself the time to finish this flip calendar before December!

Materials Used:

The Process…;

I had a lot of cardstock banner shapes cut leftover from previous projects so I decided to go ahead and use them for this. You can always cut your own shapes out of any color cardstock you desire, and make them any size, too! I counted out 13 banners, because I plan on doing 25 days and I will be using both front and back of these banners.

I went ahead with the first page, number 25, and took some Ivory High Impact paint and applied it to the edges of the banner. I liked how it made it look a little bit snowy. I set the banner aside to dry as I worked on my other little pieces.

For the burlap poinsettia, I used some of Canvas Corp’;s red burlap sheet and ran it through my Sizzix using a Sizzix poinsettia die. Then, I just layered the pieces together and pushed a brad through the center to hold it together. I also used some more Tattered Angel’;s paint on the petals, and also added some Chandelier Glam for sparkle.

I also used a Lawn Fawn die set, “;Stitched Journaling Card”;, and cut out the journaling card shape and stamped polka dots using some brown Distress Ink. I then layered all the pieces together on my banner base. The number 25 is stamped and gold embossed on a piece of vellum.

For the next page, number 24, I wanted to go with more of a winter snow theme. I used more Ivory High Impact paint and a script background stamp and stamped the background. Then, as the background paint was drying, I cut the snowflakes using Lawn Fawn’;s Stitched Snowflakes Dies. I used white paper, and then painted on some Chandelier Glam to make it look like sparkly snow.

I then embossed the number 24 on another square of vellum, and glued it down on the background with the snowflakes all around. To finish it off, I just added a little bow to the biggest snowflake using a bit of Canvas Corp Jute twine.?I only finished two pages so far, but I plan to take my time and make each page different. I like the idea of having this handmade flip calendar to use year after year.

We love the idea of counting down to special days! This calendar gives us a lot of ideas of how you can switch it up to make it work for you. Have the kids help put together all 25 pages, and let them decorate each one. Or, display a special photo on each page and then you have a unique way to display a new photo all month long! You can even write the title of a book to read with the kids each day, or write in a special activity to do as a family.?

What did surprise me was what came next: all manner of unicorns started showing up wherever you might find a child: in the bathtub, at the breakfast table, on the underside of anything with a hood. We had reached peak unicorn mania when Fast Company published a piece that declared as much back in May 2017, a few weeks after my son was born. Well, he’s 18 months old now, and — peak, schmeak — I’m here to tell you about a 2-year-old’s unicorn-themed birthday we were invited to just last month (North West, incidentally, recently celebrated turning five in the same way). I also realized that going to the party would require zero advance planning: literally any kids’ store on the way there would inevitably carry something on-theme, be it a baseball cap or a sweatshirt or a face mask. Or I could have just brought along the brush-away sequin unicorn my son already owns — I took it from the free table at work, after it was left there, surely, by a fellow editor suffering from understandable unicorn fatigue.

We couldn’t believe all of the buzz that our fans were creating after we introduced our new Definition of My Dog Personalized Pillow on?our Facebook and Pinterest pages?a couple weeks ago.

Your bedding style combines two things: 1) what keeps you comfortable while you sleep and 2) what colors, textures and patterns you like. With so many bedding options to choose from, we like to start with comfort preferences first to narrow things down, and then move on to the color and style of your bedding.
